Heartbroken Family Saves Three-Legged Cat From Euthanasia After Losing Beloved Pet To Cancer

A family grieving the death of their 14-year-old cat stepped in to rescue a three-legged cat just days before a shelter planned to put him down.

The cat’s new owner, David, explained to Newsweek that he had to make the devastating decision to put down his beloved pet in February, and he and the rest of his family were having a hard time dealing with the loss. But they were more worried about their other cat and knew he needed a new companion.

“We knew it was going to be a rough journey for him,” David explained. “We knew he needed another friend.”

So David set out to find the perfect match. He searched the internet and asked his friends and family for advice, but he couldn’t hone in on the right cat. Then someone suggested he check out a local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals branch. And after a quick online browse, he saw a cat named Stewart and “fell in love.”

We just rescued this fella from a shelter. He’s 6 months old and missing a rear leg. This is Stewart!

“We went to meet him last Saturday and knew immediately that we wanted him in our family,” he shared.

A Driver Found Stewart Dying On The Side Of The Road

David found Stewart at just the right time. The orange tabby had been found on the side of the road, nearly dead after being hit by a vehicle. A driver spotted him and took him to a vet to be put down. But the vet was able to save his life. However, they had no choice but to amputate one of his hind legs.

When Stewart recovered from his injuries, he went up for adoption—but no one was interested. So he was set to be euthanized.

Fortunately, David took Stewart home the day after meeting him. And while the friendly three-legged cat is still learning to navigate with his disability, he’s having no problems fitting in with his new family.

“He is so sweet and purrs like crazy, rolls over on his back, and loves pets and scratches,” David shared. “He is still recovering from the removal of his leg and learning to walk again, but can run after toys better than he can walk.”
